We decided to try Waldos for valentines dinner and was pleasantly surprised. My wife and I selected from the set menu and chose the steak. The appetizers were great, baked brie, smoked salmon salad and lobster bisque were all very nice. Our meal arrived and was cooked to perfection. The steak was exactly as we asked, asparagus was cooked perfectly as were the roasted potatoes. As our meal was to be followed by attending a play at the Grand Theatre, our time was limited. Joe, our server, was a great representative of the restaurant and ensured that we were served in a timely fashion. Time ran short and since we could not take the set dessert with us... Joe arranged for us to have a different dessert to take with us. Joe was a great guy who helped make the evening a success. The only suggestion would be for the restaurant to have complimentary roses for all the ladies in attendance. We will certainly return again soon. Lire plus

I took my husband out for dinner last night, to celebrate his birthday. It was our first visit to David's and we were both impressed. First, I want to commend the great service we received. We were looked after in a timely, and polite manor. Our server was helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and wines. We only ordered entrees, as we aren't big eaters and find restaurant portions fill us quickly. He ordered the chicken and wow -- the bacon sauce was fantastic. I kept trying to steal it of his plate. I ordered the filet mignon, and it was cooked to perfection. My gnocchi was light and tasty. But I will say that my sauce was a little bland in comparison to the bacon sauce. Not that there was anything wrong with my balsalmic/tarragon jus/with onions, it was good, but the bacon sauce would beat just about anything hands down. My only constructive criticism would be that the pink/red walls are a little jarring and the awning out front could use a wash (covered in bird droppings). So yeah - not much to complain about. We'd definitely go again, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend others try it out. Lire plus

I was here with a friend for a Monday lunch. Apparently Monday is the slowest day of the week , the place wasn’t busy, and the lunch traffic was handled by one friendly young waitress. In some places when business is slow and the staff don’t have much to do, service can be bad. Why exert yourself for just a couple of people in the corner ? However that wasn’t the case at Paddy’s as our girl was keeping herself quite busy, giving extra attention to the few early lunch hour customers who were already there. As the lunch hour rolled on more people showed up, and eventually they had a respectably sized crowd for lunch. I had one of the specials of the day -the mushroom soup ($4.99) and it was followed by the chicken tikka masala curry ($12.99). I was hungry and I tucked into the soup as soon as it arrived and I didn’t pause very often until it was gone. It was pretty good and if I was home and had a spatula, I would have scraped the soup bowl clean and licked the spatula ! I was still hungry after the soup. The curry that followed was okay. The large plate was divided into equal parts of green peas, plain basmati rice, and the chicken curry. My first impression was that I would have liked fewer peas and more curry! However the portions were just enough to satisfy my hunger – not too little, not too much – just right! My friend had the seafood pie with a side of chowder ($15.98). I didn’t ask him how it was and he didn’t volunteer, so I guess his meal was at least acceptable and probably better than just that. I found my curry a little bland. I think they described it as “medium” on the menu but I thought it was weaker than that. I suppose I could have asked for a bottle of Tabasco sauce to heat it up. They must have to cater to diners who think they are adventurous with hot food but who really aren’t ? The service was very good, the food was at least okay maybe “good”, but the price ? Well, I thought the price was at the top end of the lunch range. I paid $51 with tip for the two of us and we only had soft drinks ($2.79) with our meals. I think we could have received the same value at other places for about $15 less. I usually end up at Paddy’s about once a year. The prices are probably why I don’t go there more often. I’ve got a feeling it would be a very appropriate place to spend an evening with friends for some pub food, a few drinks, and a great atmosphere, but as a lunch spot…well, there’s better value elsewhere in “River City”. The menu is not extensive and there was no overall 'theme' but the food we had was pretty good. They recommended a great wine and the waitress was excellent - both friendly and helpful. We booked at the last minute and were glad we did. Not a fine dining experience if that is what you want but a comfortable experience. We split a salad and the entree portions were a good size. We had a great time at Bijou and I don't agree with any of these negative reviews. To me a chalkboard menu and higher prices reflect this restaurant's commitment to local food and keeping things interesting during changing seasons. I respect this restaurant for providing quality food and taking their time rather than taking a touristy "more bang for your buck" approach. One that note though, I did notice the service was a little slow. Not really slower than I'd expect considering the care that goes into the food, but if you're rushing to catch a show this place is maybe not your best bet. When we had our Stratford trip we made our reservation on a night where we weren't seeing any shows and got to appreciate a slower paced and delicious meal. Lire plus

After years of eating at Under the Volcano we had another great meal once again. The margaritas are always good,as well as the chips and salsa before the meal. I tend to stick with the spicy foods whereas my wife prefers it relatively mild. My wife had the beef burrito and I the blackened chicken chimichanga (made extra hot). Confession: I don't come here for the food. I come because I live close by and I like the environment, especially when I'm eating alone. It's just a fun place to spend an hour, and I'm sure that's why it's always busy and obviously a successful business. I've been twice recently, and both times I ordered the sirloin steak. I'd normally stick to burgers and wings at this type of place, but the waitress was very convincing that steak was their specialty. The first time she was right! The first steak I had was every bit as good as what you'd get at, say the Keg on a good nite. I was quite impressed! So I went back two weeks later and ordered the same steak dinner. This time I was disappointed. Although it was cooked perfectly (to the medium rare spec I ordered), the beef wasn't of high quality. Instead it was tough and full of grizzle. Not a great experience and certainly not acceptable for a $25 entree. I'll no doubt go back to Jack Astors but I'm going to stick to pub fare. That's obviously what they're good at. Lire plus

Everyone is so nice and brings a positive atmosphere to the restaurant. It is always a good idea to make reservations before going to Grog's because it is always busy, in a good way. The location is just outside of the Grand Bend Strip, about a 10 minute drive with a lot of parking. It's a great place to go after a long day at the beach. Now, the food at this restaurant is fantastic. It is always fresh and delicious. My favourite dish there is the panzarotti with their famous zany bread, which I highly recommend. All the dishes they have on the menu are prepared in a timely manager and it never disappoints. Grog’s is a great place to bring your family and friends and enjoy all the wonderful people and food.
